MUNSTER YOUTH COMPETITIONS 1995

While 1995 was not a vintage year for Munster at Youth Interprovincial level, there was some very positive signs. Munster President, Paddy Tynan, put coaching very much at the top of his agenda and a particular effort was directed at the U-13 level. This effort, plus the establishment of a league for this age-group, contributed to a much improved performance in the U-13 interprovincials. Another positive developmnt was the victory of Limerick in the Munster U-15 competition which was a reward for the efforts of such as Peter Nicholson and Jeff Edwards in the development of youth cricket in that area. Chris McGrath and Mark Barriscale of Cork County must be congratulated on their selection for the Irish squad which played in the U-19 Youth Tournament - the first time Munster had two players in the squad.

The biggest honour went to Steve Hickey who was captain of the 1995 Irish U-16 side. In July, a side drawn from Cork County, Harlequins and Church of Ireland toured Hampshire at U-19 level winning two of the four matches played against good Hampshire club sides.
