Competition Report
Cork County and junior club Waterford Vikings contested the 1996 Senior Cup Final at the Mardyke. In the first round Cork County defeated Limerick whom they bowled out for 111 (Scott Morone 63) in an innings which saw a Limerick collapse as Steve Hickey took four for 15. Steve Alleyne (50) and Peter Dineen (33) put on an undefeated 80 as Cork County won by eight wickets. In the semi-final, Cork County were struggling at 75 for six but Jerry Bramble (101) and K Somersen (50) brought the total to 246 for seven and Steve Alleyne and John Power bowled Harlequins out for 57.

Having beaten UCC in the first round, Co Kerry visited Waterford Vikings in confident mood but lost out ultimately in a rain affected game which finished in gathering gloom at around 9.45pm Co Kerry batted first and were bowled out for 137 which the Waterford side eventually overhauled as night fell.

In the final Cork County won the toss and batted. Good early bowling by Richard Waddell and Laurence O'Brien restricted Cork County to 81 for four off 28 overs. Steve Alleyne, however, held the innings together with a fine 84 and Jerry Bramble (53) and John Power (46) attacked the tiring Waterford bowlers in the final ten overs to bring Cork County to 259 for six. Bramble and Power proved too strong for the Waterford batsmen as they succumbed for a total of 71 with the Vikings captain, Tony Brett, resisting gamely to score 34.
