Burndennett v Ardmore
18 May 2002
Ardmore
secured a 42 run win over fellow title challengers Burndennett, but at a price.
Their professional Iftikhar Hussain (right) dislocated a shoulder while fielding
and is likely to be out for 4 weeks. The day had started rather better for Hussain
as he scored 54 in just 49 balls which included 7 fours and 2 sixes. He had
lost fellow opener Kevin Martin to the first ball he received and Mark Gillespie
had made just six when he too fell to Stephen McCay. Colin McGettigan ripped
through the Ardmore middle order to leave them in trouble at 120 for 8. The
30 runs added for the last two wickets proved vital as skipper David McAllister
with 17 and Martin Gormley with 15 added valuable runs.
Chasing 149 for victory Burndennett had no answer to the spin of both Dessie McCourt and Mark Gillespie as they shared 7 wickets between them. Aidan Boyle top scored with 22 but the result was never in doubt as they finished on 106. Gerard Brolly also picked up 2 wickets as Burndennett's title hopes took a blow.
