Young Scottish star is forced to withdraw

16 July 2002

Just days after being voted 'Man of the Tournament' in the European Under 19 championship, Moneeb Iqbal has been withdrawn from the senior squad flying to Belfast later this week. Although batting supremely for the European Championship winning Under 19s, Moneeb has picked up a niggling back injury which is affecting his bowling. His place is taken by a re-juvenated Asim Butt, who, after recovering from a serious knee injury, has bowled consistently well for his side Herriots.

Although disappointed to be missing out on the Senior's European challenge, Moneeb will still be playing for the Under 17s in their European challenge later this month, but as a batsman only.
