A Timeline of Namibia Cricket

1915 Cricket is first played in what is now Namibia when South African troops play locals shortly after the occupying German forces had surrendered.
1954 First representative match for South West Africa, against Liesbeek Park, a club side from Cape Town.
1958 First tour by South West Africa, playing club sides in Port Elizabeth.
1962 South West Africa play in the South African Country Championship for the first time, doing so anually until 1988.
1989 After refusing an invitation to play in the South African Country Championship, the newly formed Namibian Cricket Board send the first team representing Namibia to Botswana, winning two one-day matches.
1990 Gloucestershire Couinty Cricket Club tour Namibia as part of the independence celebrations, and Namibia beat them three times.
Netherlands tour Namibia, going unbeaten.
First tour of Zimbabwe by Namibia. On return, several cricket balls are confiscated after border police believe them to possibly be hand-grenades.
1991 MCC tour, beating Namibia by an innings in a three day match.
Namibia host and win the Zone VI cricket tournament.
1992 Namibia are granted associate membership of the ICC.
1994 Namibia win the plate competition in their first ICC Trophy.
1995 Malaysia tour Namibia, drawing a three-day match and losing a one-day match.
1996 Italy tour Namibia with Namibia winning both the three-day and one-day match. The three-day match sees Namibia score 510/4 declared (their highest score) and Daniel Kuelder score 227, their highest individual score as they win by an innings inside two days.
Namibia take part in the UCB Bowl for the first time, playing in the tournament for each of the following five seasons.
1997 Namibia finish in 15th place in the ICC Trophy in Malaysia.
1998 Denmark tour Namibia, losing the one-day game and drawing the three-day game.
2000 Namibia play a tri-series in Bangladesh, also involving Malaysia and are joint winners with the hosts.
2001 MCC tour, Namibia win one-day series 3-1.
Scotland tour, two match one-day series finishes drawn.
Namibia reach the final of the ICC Trophy in Canada, losing to the Netherlands, thus qualifying for the 2003 World Cup.
2002 Namibia host the ICC 6 Nations Challenge and finish fourth.
Namibia tour Zimbabwe, losing four matches against Zimbabwe A.
Namibia tour Kenya, winning one-day series.
Namibia play in the Standard Bank Cup, the top tier of South African domestic one-day cricket, but lose all their matches.
2003 Namibia's first World Cup sees the highlight of Jan-Berrie Burger scoring 85 against England as they almost pull of an upset, and the lowlight of a then-record 256 run defeat by Australia. They lose all their matches.
Zimbabwe A tour Namibia, losing one-day series 2-1. Both three-day games go to the tourists.
2004 Namibia tour Zimbabwe, winning one-day series against Zimbabwe A 4-1.
Bangladesh tour Namibia, winning all three one-day games and drawing the three-day game.
Namibia play in the ICC 6 Nations Challenge in the UAE, finishing third.
Namibia's first first-class games in the Intercontinental Cup see them lose to both Kenya and Uganda.
Namibia win African associates championship in Zambia.
Namibia visit Zimbabwe, finishing as runners-up in the Zimbabwean domestic one-day competition, and beating the national side twice.
England tour Namibia, winning both one-day matches.
2005 Zimbabwe A tour Namibia, losing both one-day matches.
Pakistan A tour Namibia, winning all three one-day matches and drawing the three-day game.
Namibia beat Uganda and draw against Kenya in the Intercontinental Cup, but don't qualify for the semi-finals.
Namibia finish seventh in the ICC Trophy in Ireland.
New Zealand tour Namibia, winning both one-day matches. Namibia almost cause an upset in the first, losing by only 29 runs after New Zealand scored 330/6.
Namibia host the semi-finals and final of the Intercontinental Cup. Whilst the final is being played, Namibia play two matches against Bermuda, which were tarnished by short-pitched bowling and accusations of racism.
2006 Namibia draw with Nepal to secure the eighth and final spot in the Intercontinental Cup. Their group games start badly with an innings defeat by Scotland, followed by a defeat by Ireland before ending with an innings win over the UAE.
2006/07 Assisted by overseas player Tatenda Taibu, Namibia perform well in the second tier of South African first-class and List A cricket, just missing out on the final stages of both competitions.
