A Timeline of Nepal Cricket

1920s Cricket is introduced to Nepal by the ruling Rana family, but it is kept as a game for the ŇeliteÓ of the country.
1946 Cricket Association of Nepal is set up.
1950s The ruling family is overthrown and cricket begins to spread throughout Kathmandu.
1961 CAN becomes part of the National Sports Council.
1998 Nepal become an affiliate member of the ICC.
1990s Major development programs are initiated throughout the country, spreading cricket outside the capital for the first time.
1996 Nepal play internationally for the first time, beating Brunei and Japan in the ACC Trophy.
Nepal become an associate member of the ICC.
1998 Nepal host the ACC Trophy, though they fail to progress beyond the first round.
2000 Nepal Under-19s reach the last eight of the Under-19 World Cup.
Nepal lose to Hong Kong in the semi-final of the ACC Trophy.
2001 Nepal take part in their first and, to date, only ICC Trophy. They beat Gibraltar and Germany in the first round, but lose to eventual runners-up Namibia.
2002 Nepal Under-19s finish 10th in the Under-19 World Cup, beating Test teams Pakistan and Bangladesh along the way.
The ACC Trophy in Singapore sees Nepal lose to the UAE in the final.
2003 Nepal Under-19s win the Youth Asia Cup in Karachi.
2004 Nepal Under-19s beat South Africa during the Under-19 World Cup.
Nepal play their first first-class match, drawing with the UAE in the first round of the Intercontinental Cup at Sharjah. The beat Malaysia later in the tournament.
Nepal finish 5th in the ACC Trophy, qualifying for the repchage tournament for the 2005 ICC Trophy.
Nepal finish 3rd in the ACC Fast Track Countries Tournament.
2005 Nepal finish 3rd in the repchage tournament for the 2005 ICC Trophy.
Nepal are runners-up to the UAE in the ACC Fast Track Countries Tournament.
In the Intercontinental Cup, Nepal beat the UAE and draw with Hong Kong, but don't get enough points to reach the semi-finals.
Nepal Under-19s win the ACC Under-19 Cup.
2006 Nepal Under-19s beat South Africa and New Zealand in the Under-19 World Cup as they win the plate competition.
Nepal draw a play-off match with Namibia. Nepal needed to win to qualify for the 2006 Intercontinental Cup.
Nepal tour Pakistan, losing a three match series against the Pakistan Cricket Academy.
Nepal lose to Afghanistan to finish 4th in the ACC Trophy. They qualify for Division Five of the World Cricket League in 2008.
2007 Nepal win the 2006/07 ACC Premier League tournament, their first trophy at senior level.
Nepal's women make their international debut, finishing as runners-up to Bangladesh in the ACC Women's Tournament.
The Under-19s once again lift the ACC Under-19 Cup to qualify for the 2008 World Cup.
Nepal have what for them is a poor ACC Twenty20 Cup, finishing fourth in their five team first round group, failing to progress in the tournament.
