Who had the greatest influence on your career? My father.
What is your ultimate cricketing aspiration? To score an International game at Lords.
What is your most memorable cricketing moment? Scoring 7-21 for Imran Khan (Bonn CS) versus Elmpt CC at JHQ – all clean bowled.
What was your worst cricketing moment? Scoring a friendly match alone in the shade underneath some trees, play proceeded nicely until small, green caterpillars started to drop from said trees into my hair, my cleavage and down the back of my neck, reducing me to hysterics. My antics and the removal of my infested top stopped play. Even worse, I missed (caused?) 2 byes.
What is your funniest cricketing moment? Watching England vs New Zealand. I had set up a little scorer’s platform using a picnic table across my lap and the chairs in front. Late in the afternoon, a champagne cork from the party behind hit me on the back of my head, my table collapsed, throwing me, several drinks, papers and pencils onto the Beige Army in the row in front, who threw their drinks onto the next row and so on, forming a vertical liquid Mexican wave which was observed by Daniel Vettori, fielding at deep square leg who promptly fell apart laughing. I still have that cork.
Who is your best friend in European Cricket and why? Paul Baldwin, because he encouraged me to start scoring seriously.
Who is your favourite European cricketer (past and present), and why? Ed Joyce. I have followed his county progress for some time and am very impressed with his talent.
Which is your favourite European cricket ground, and why? Lords, superb atmosphere even when empty.
Who is the best young European cricketer you have seen in recent times? Shahid Nadeem and Aritharan Vaseekaran (Germany Under 19).
Do you think bowlers should be restricted in domestic cricket? Yes,
What are your main complaints about Scottish cricket? Lack of funding, lack of sponsors, lack of media interest.
How would you set about improving the standard of European cricket? Funding to provide as many top-quality training facilities and support staff as possible, establishment of a central European Academy, more activities to promote the recruitment of new talents.
How would you set about making European cricket more popular? Get cricket as a sports option into more schools, more media coverage, encourage children and women to become involved at all levels, make grounds more attractive places to visit, especially for families.
Which Test team, if any, do you support, and why? England, my homeland.
Who is your favourite world cricketer, and why? Daniel Vettori. A superb bowler, who is steadily improving with the bat, he has good leadership qualities and is an excellent team player. Sense of humour!
Who is your favourite English cricketer, and why? David Gower. David was the first ever professional player I met when he joined Leicestershire in the early 1970’s and I saw him play as often as possible after that. He had one of the most elegant, beautiful batting styles of the modern era and is a genuinely lovely person.
