Scoring Scotland’s defeat in the World Cup qualification game at the ICC Trophy in 2001, Toronto

What is your funniest cricketing moment?
Listening to Moler (Scotland coach Andy Moles) telling his full range of jokes after a few drinks.

Who is your best friend in Scottish Cricket and why?
No particular person. My scorebook is my best friend.

Who is your favourite Scottish cricketer (past and present), and why?
Leslie Balfour-Melville. I have done a fair amount on Scottish Victorian cricketers-he was the “WG Grace of Scotland”

Which is your favourite Scottish cricket ground, and why?
Forfar - great scoring facilities & great people at the club.

Who is the best young Scottish cricketer you have seen in recent times?
I was very impressed by Ross Lyons when he came in to the Scotl;and team at the end of the 2005 season.

What do you think of overseas professionals in Scottish club cricket?
They have a part to play but far too much money is spent on them. The number should be reduced.

Do you think bowlers should be restricted in domestic cricket?
Yes, but Scots should be able to bowl 15 overs/innings with overseas players 10 overs/innings.

What are your main complaints about Scottish cricket?
Lack of umpires caused by poor player behaviour. Also need more scorers.

How would you set about improving the standard of Scottish cricket?
Induce players to show more dedication, particularly to practice.

How would you set about making Scottish cricket more popular?
Make sure we keep qualifying for the World Cup Finals. Also, ban football ‘cos we’re pretty useless at it.

Which Test team, if any, do you support, and why?
England - Scots aspire to play for them. Which overseas countries have you scored cricket in?
South Africa, Malaysia, Canada, Denmark, Holland & Ireland Which was your favourite, and why?
Malaysia, because I love the Far East. It was also a great tournament-Scotland’s first participation in the ICC Trophy. Who is your favourite world cricketer, and why?
