Today Friday being a Bank Holiday in Denmark, the remaining Danish Cup matches prior to the semi-final stage were played. The most important of these being Aalborg against Herning, where Aalborg, with a victory, would seal a place in the semi-finals. The match was the first at home this season for Aalborg in glorious sunshine albeit a stiff wind that kept the temperature down. Herning won the toss and put Aalborg in to bat. Two early wickets gave Herning hope for success, but it soon became obvious that they had put more butter on their fingers than on their bread at breakfast, as too many chances were put down. This gave the chance for Australien David Nankervis to dominate and score his first century in Denmark well supported by N.P. Kopperholdt in a stand of a 110 for the fourth wicket. Ending on 202 from thier 40 overs, Herning, coming from the 1.st division, were given a handicap benefit of 20 runs, but in the end that made no difference as Peter Thorup yet again took 5 wickets with his swing bowling and Herning were all out for 117. Only captain Mogens Christiansen offered any resistance being last man out for 43.

During the match at least three sixes were scored with the ball being hit on to the railway. The situation for the club Aalborg concerning the problem with the railways is yet to be concluded. Last year two players were practically kidnapped after a train stopped as they were looking for the ball and they were finally fined for trespassing. The chairman has approached the authorites several times for a solution.

The Danish Cup semi-finals will now be played on Ascension Day, May 25th. Aalborg will be at home to Esbjerg while Glostrup are at home to Svanholm.

On Sunday there are three matches in the Danish Elitedivision. Glostrup take on the pakistani club Norrebro and with recent form Glostrup are clear favourties. Aalborg take on Husum. Aalborg are looking for their first win and nothing is impossible as Husum rely on few key players. Finally last year champions Skanderborg are visited by Esbjerg, who last week suprisingly lost to Husum. Esbjerg are perhaps the weak favourites here, but a close match is in prospect.
