While the best Danish players were battling it out in the hot sun in Holland, three 1st division matches were played, also in the hot sun. This included the top clash between Herning and AB, both teams undefeated and the match ending in a cloud of scandal with a possible complaint from Herning on the way.
The match ended with perhaps the surprise result of AB winning by 88 runs. This proving the mass improvement of AB during the last couple of years and that they are serious contenders for promotion to the Elitedivision. But they must read the rulebook more intensely than before and accept there are things one cannot do at this level.
The trouble occurred due to AB's open interpretation of the use of substitutes which they used constantly without permission of the umpires and therefore resting the bowlers in the hot sun. The umpires didn't notice the new faces as they were a new side to them in Herning. A bright face suddenly came up with the calculation that Herning could have won the match if the umpires had given the 5 run penalty when a substitute had fielded the ball. But when one thinks about it, the substitutes in question didn't field the ball enough times to have any impact on the result of the match. Reports indicate that Herning will lodge a complaint so we will have to wait and see what the umpires report.
At long last Albertslund had a sucess in their match against Koge where Mohammed Asif plundered the Koge bowlers scoring 113 well supported by Asif Amjad with 95*. Albertslund's total of 274 was too much for Koge who lost their first four wickets in the first four overs. They were finally all out for 110.
KB's second eleven who had a bright start to the season are now back to earth after their defeat to Svanholm's seconds. Svanholm opened with 206 but it was not the former Danish players who made the runs but young Bobby Malik with 56. But Allan From did make an impact by taking 5 wickets for sevens runs with his virtuel off spinners. This was probably his best bowling ever, so it's never too late.
