Cricketing Career

Andre BothaWho had the greatest influence on your career?
At the start my dad played a big role, and John Lyons later on when I started playing Senior cricket and came over to Ireland as a youngster.

What is your ultimate cricketing aspiration?
That could well happen in March, if all goes well, and I get selected and stay injury free.

What is your most memorable cricketing moment?
There are a few in Ireland, but winning the Standard Bank Day/Night final with Griqualand West will always stay in the memory bank.

What was your worst cricketing moment?
Getting a golden duck on debut for Ireland.

What is your funniest cricketing moment?
I have to agree with Adi Birrell's view on that - the Jeremy Bray run out. I had a close up view because I was batting with him at the time - sorry JB.

Who is your best friend in Irish Cricket and why?
Don't have a best friend - they are all a great bunch of guys.

Irish Cricket

Who is your favourite Irish cricketer (past and present), and why?
Alan Lewis and Angus Dunlop - Like Trent I am relatively new to Ireland, and can only judge the people I've seen and played against. For the present cricketers, I'd have to select the same two - it's some achievement for them to be playing at their time of day! Only kidding- two superb cricketers.

Which is your favourite Irish cricket ground, and why?
Any ground with dry hard wickets.

Who is the best young Irish cricketer you have seen in recent times?
There is only one Moggie (Eoin Morgan).

What do you think of overseas professionals in Irish club cricket?
I think it's very good for the game.

Do you think bowlers should be restricted in domestic cricket?
Yes

What are your main complaints about Irish cricket?
Lack of exposure.

How would you set about improving the standard of Irish cricket?
We need to try and fill the gap between playing for your club and playing for Ireland. There is a big step to climb to go straight from club cricket to international level. We should try and make the Inter Pro's work, but I don't know how that can be achieved.

How would you set about making Irish cricket more popular?
Market it properly to get the crowds - coloured clothing would be a start.

International Cricket

Which Test team, if any, do you support, and why?
I'm on the look-out for a team - South Africa is letting me down! Any suggestions?

Which overseas countries have you played cricket in?
Argentina, England, Australia, Wales, Scotland, South Africa, Holland and Ireland.

Which was your favourite, and why?
Argentina - didn't know they played cricket over there, but we had a great trip.

Who is your favourite world cricketer, and why?
Graeme Pollock - I wish I could bat like him.

Who is your favourite English cricketer, and why?
Kevin Pietersen - of course he was born in South Africa.
