There are still Danes that think Amjad Khan would never be picked for England. Today's selection for England A team, who go to Bangladesh in February, might change all that. Only weeks after qualifying to play for England i.e. living 4 years in England, Amjad has been picked for the England A tour that play Bangladesh A in 2 four day games and 3 one dayers. Amjad will be competing with Tom Smith, Stuart Broad and Graham Onions for the pace bowler spots while Adil Rashid and Alex Loudon wil be the spin attack. If Amjad achieves success in Bangladesh then Denmark will really feel the loss of Amjad's services. On the other hand Amjad's selection for England A is a pat on the back for the development strategy in Danish cricket as Amjad might end up achieving a boy's dream.
Two notable omissions to the squad are Owais Shah and Robert Key, who were touted as candidates to replace Marcus Trescothick in the Ashes squad before Ed Joyce's call-up. However, David Graveney says this is more to do with handing experience to a young group of batsmen rather than ending the international hopes of Shah and Key. The squad is more to the development of up and coming England players than giving room to experienced and perhaps outgoing players.
The side will be under the leadership of Sussex's Michael Yardy who was due to play for England but was sidelined due to the inclusion of spinner Monty Panesar in last summer's series against Pakistan. So this tour will be an ideal opportunity for him to restablish his credentials.
