In the recent publication of Danish Cricket's Yearbook for 2006 the Danish Cricket Association's chairman CBS Hansen wrote an article "Annus Horribilis". Using a Latin expression for a horrible year CBS Hansen looked back on a year that contained a high level of activities but also a collapse of the administration that has led to financial difficulties.
The year started with the launch of the DCA's new strategic plan towards 2010 at a large meeting in December 2005, presented by the administrator Ole Hücklekamp. The administration however was so concentrated on the implementation of the plan that the basic management of the Association became neglected. This became apparent when the AGM in April was declared void, as the executive board were unable to present the annual accounts for 2005. A new meeting was then held in June where the accounts were approved, but by then Ole Hücklekamp had resigned his post. This left the administration unmanned until August but when the new administrator Ole Roland started his job, it was then more of a case of tidying up, as things were in a mess and there had been only an outflow of cash. The rest of the year has been used to re-establish the financial management but the damage has been substantial and the Association has had to have the help of the Danish Sports Association.
The AGM in June also meant a change in the executive board with Thomas Kentorp being elected as Vice-Chairman. Thomas is expected to take over the Chairmanship this coming April as CBS Hansen declared last year that he would be stepping down. Thomas will be supported by Ole Mortensen and Umair Butt in the daily management and they are in full swing working on tough budget measures for the coming year.
However even though the Association needs rebuilding CBS Hansen pointed out the positive side of the year's sporting activities. Denmark won the European Indoor Championship at Lords at the beginning of the year and Denmark's national side proved themselves worthy as they gave Holland, Scotland and Ireland a run for their money at the European Championships. Kenya A visited Denmark as part of Denmark's preparations for the coming year.
