Ryan Eagleson, the NICA Development Officer is currently promoting and developing cricket at both clubs and schools.
The new and smaller clubs are not forgotten and Ryan was accompanied by Cricket Development Manager Brian Walsh on a visit to Clogher Cricket Club where they met up with local coach and captain of the Clogher 1st XI, Kenny Maxwell. Clogher have entered a team in the Ulster Bank Senior League for the first time and their opening fixture will be against PSNI at Newforge on 28 April.
When there they visited the tremendous new facilities at Fivemiletown High School where they met with Head of PE Kenny Tavers. Discussions took place regarding starting cricket in the school as well as other local schools and making use of the new sports hall. The possibility of installing cricket nets to the hall was also discussed.
Other local schools were visited including Enniskillen Model where Ryan presented 119 Kwik Cricket Awards to the boys and girls. There was a great interest in cricket and while there he did a question and answer session and signed autographs.
Queen Elizabeth II PS was another school visited and again more certificates were presented, questions answered and autographs signed. Ryan proved to be a big success with all the children.
Ryan, who was appointed as NICA Development Officer in 2006 in the NCU area, played 65 times for Ireland between 1995 and 2004 and took 70 wickets with a best of 4 -59 against Leicestershire in 1999.
