The league for the 2007 season will be known as the Lloyds TSB Scotland League.

Thirty two teams will set out on a journey which at the end of August will see three teams crowned as champions of their respective divisions. The winners of the First and Second Divisions will automatically gain promotion and the bottom side in the Premier and First Divisions will be relegated.

In the Second Division the bottom two teams will be relegated to the Feeder Leagues and the side finishing tenth will meet the winners of the Feeder League play-offs to decide who will play in that league in 2008.

There will also be for the first time relegation play-offs between the clubs finishing ninth in the Premier and First Divisions against the teams who finish second in the First and Second Divisions to decide who will play in the Premier and First Divisions in 2008.

The Competitions Committee have also decided to revamp the points with the percentage system being replaced with a completely new points system, League placings will now be decided by the number of points received.

If teams are equal on points then the placings will be determined by the points gained in matches between the sides, and should this fail to separate the teams, then this will be done on net run rate. Should this fail to resolve the issue then the teams will compete against each other to decide. This will only be done if it is required to establish promotion and relegation positions in the league.

The winning team will receive 10 points with a further 2 Bonus points available should the opposition be dismissed or is deemed to be all out.. The losing side will receive either batting or bowling points based on their performance in the second innings of the game and will also get the extra 2 points should the opposition be dismissed or be deemed to be all out.

The points will be awarded as follows

Batting

  • Scoring 75% of the target score: 1 point
  • Scoring 80% of the target score: 2 points
  • Scoring 85% of the target score: 3 points
  • Scoring 90% of the target score: 4 points
  • Scoring 95% of the target score: 5 points

Bowling

  • Taking 5 wickets: 1 point
  • Taking 6 wickets: 2 points
  • Taking 7 wickets: 3 points
  • Taking 8 wickets: 4 points
  • Taking 9 wickets: 5 points

In the event of a tie each side will receive 7 points, and no bonus points

In a match which is either abandoned or cancelled each team will receive 3 points

Another change is that matches can now be reduced to thirty (previously forty) overs a side prior to the start of the match if a match is abandoned due to bad weather or light then, provided the team batting second has received at least 20 overs the match will be decided by Duckworh Lewis.

The Committee hope that these changes will encourage teams to make every effort to play the matches. Only time will tell if they have been successful.
