The Danish season is now under way with the start of the league. Although the First division jumped the gun last weekend with two matches, the Elitedivision started Saturday with 3 matches of which 2 turned out to be exciting.

Herning who last year were promoted to the Elite division were favourites in Saturday's clash with Esbjerg. The fact a promoted side being a favourite results from the player movements during the winter. Danish captain Carsten Pedersen decided to return to his native club Herning from Skanderborg. NP Kopperholdt has joined Herning from Aalborg and the surprise move of former Danish captain Per Jensen and Kent Jensen from Esbjerg to Herning. Esbjerg on the other hand have had no new players and therefore, beforehand, are weaker on paper. Saturday's game showed this with an esy Herning victory. It didn't look like that to start with as the Esbjerg openers plundered the Herning bowling but once Henrik Ore was bowled and Mads Schmidt caught in the deep the Esbjerg innings fell apart as several batsmen fell to indifferent shots. Esbjerg's total of 125 was no match for herning as Troels Thoegersen plundered the bowlers hitting 82 not out off only 58 deliveries. Herning's easy victory add speculation to the thought that Herning is the West Denmarks chance of a title.

The other 2 matches were in Copenhagen and none of them were dominated by any side adding more speculation to who might win this year's title. Svanholm were at home to Norrebro, the Pakistani based side. Svanholm are hampered this year by injuries to a couple of players although Mickey Lund seems to be back in action. Svanholm's bowling attack relies again on how Thomas Hansen is getting on plus the arrival of Rohit Kanaiya from Glostrup. Svanholm have this years the services of player.coach Shaun Gannon from Australia. In todays match Norrebro batted first and were in difficulties at 49 for 6 but thanks to Rashid Ali Norrebro were able to add 131 runs before Thomas Hansen came back on and cleaned up the tail. Svanholms innings followed the sammen pattern as 6 wickets were down at 81 but again Thomas Hansen came to the rescue with 78 not out supported by Thomas Vestergaard and Rohit Kanaiya. Svanholm winning by 3 wickets with 4 overs to spare.

In Glostrup the match was even tighter. KB batted first and posted 224 after being 119 for 3 after 24 overs with Denmark's Bajit Singh hitting 61 not out. Glostrup were soon in trouble with six wickets down for 67 but Henrik Hansen (52) and Steffan Langgaard (43) dug Glostrup out of trouble. But at 182 both were gone and it was left to Amoriot Berry and Rasmus Nielsen to heave the winning runs. Glostrup have during the winter had the services of Ole Mortensen as coach and it was rumoured he might play for the club but not today. Gloastup are not the "Express" as they were last year with no foreign profile so the battle of the Elitedivision looks like a very open affair this year.
