Herning and Glostrup who both won their opening matches last week faced each other today in Herning with a weather forecast predicting rain. Herning had the advantage by having to bat second. However the rain ame later than predicted and Herning had Glostrup out for the lowish score of 141. Off spinner Thony Hadersland whoses bones nowadays are about stuck together with glue, took five Glostrup batsmen for just 18 runs. With Hernings score on 10 for one the rain did arrive and delayed play for a while. Glostrup weren't really interested in playing but the conditions were acceptable and Herning now had a target score of 82 from just 29 overs. (Denmark have yet to introduce Duckworth/Lewis so the target is an average) Herning thought this would be over in a jiffy and started playing likewise. Besides a couple of slip catches the Herning batsmen stood in a queue to woof the ball in the air and be caught on the boundary. Only Thony Hadersland tried to make a stand of it but when he was out Herning were buried. The scoreboard showed just 61 runs for 10 wickets in 22 overs. David Christiansen took 5 wickets for 29.
In Copenhagen Esbjerg were at Svanholm Park and here the rain also came late. Esbjerg have lost players since and last season and have had no replacements and this was easily seen today as Svanholm batted first and rattled up 257 for 5 in their 50 overs. Zishan Shah made his first score of the season with 91 while Mohammad Siddique with his more or less one handed style plundered the last overs for 47 not out. When Esbjerg batted the weather looked threatening and Esbjerg went into twenty/twenty mode in the hope of having 110 runs after the mandatory 20 overs when it rained. But Esbjerg only made 85 before the wickets ran out and the tactics failed. Svanholms Rohit Kanayia who came last year from Glostrup bowled in a straight line and ended with the season's best return so far of 8 for 50.
In the first division Albertslund had an easy victory over KB II and together with Ishoj and Skanderborg are the favourites to fight out promotion. Fredericia lost thier second match in a row to Svanholm II, where former Danish captain Soren Henriksen made 78 not out, although his back needed straightening out afterwards.
