Svanholm's home match against fellow Copenhagen AB was played on Svanholm's grass wicket and was the first in the Elitedivision to do so. However this was not the first case of cricket being played on grass in Denmark. Back in the fifties in the time where the Northern Jutland town of Hjorring was prominent in Danish cricket (sadly they are no more now) the club's best player Axel Morrild made their first home made grass wicket. This was used in the top league of the time and within no time it was labelled as dangerous. So dangerous that the club's off-spinner Hartman Petersen was supposed to have cut a deal with the local dentist in case one of his cutters hit the target. The experiment didn't last long so it took another 50 years before a domestic match was played on grass and this time there was no work for the Copenhagen dentists.
Taking in consideration this being the first time on grass the scores ending up being very high. Svanholm batted first and posted a high score which was founded in just one over when James Monitz hit Khuram Khawaja for 28 with 4 sixes. So from 167 in the 43 over Svanholm ended on 247 underlining the importance of having wickets in reserve. AB who are known to be hard hitting adapted themselves to the conditions admirably thanks to the young Tasif Khan holding things with 48. Svanholm, though, guarded the boundaries well forcing AB into reckless shots and losing wickets, so they fell short at 187.
Elsewhere Glostrup were at Norrebro who were bundled out on a slowish pitch for 82 with Glostrup's young Aftab Ahmed taking 5 for 16 with his swing bowling. Glostrup did find it hard to get these runs losing 6 wickets on the way. Peter Poulsen held things together with 36 not out.
KB went to Husum in Northern Germany. Husum noticed that KB had 5 second team players on the card and asked why. KB said they would be under strength until after the summer recess and it showed. Husum bowled them out for 124 and lost only 4 wickets in making the runs. KB remain in the bottom half of the division while Husum moved upwards. Glostrup and Svanholm remain undefeated, but Svanholm will on Saturday have to face the Jutland challengers from Herning.
The Saturday saw the only clash in the first division between Ishoj and Albertslund. Albertslund kept a firm grip on promotion hopes as they defeated Ishoj on a slow and heavy ground. Koge won their first match of the season as KB seconds faced them with a weakened team. Albetslund played their second match of the weekend against AB seconds and had no problem in defeating AB a team with no serious contentions. Albertslund and Skanderborg now lead the division undefeated.
Saturday saw the start of the Danish Twenty/twenty tournament in the West sponsored by Maazaa. Despite the loss of Esbjerg not playing the tournament was won by Herning defeating Skanderborg and Horsens. The Danish players enjoyed themselves playing this tyoe of circket but it also showed how bad the teams really were at fileding when it came to the crunch. The tournament continues in the East with several evening matches with the finals at Svanholm on June 23.
