Denmark held it's first Twenty/20 tournament which came to a close Saturday with a finals day held at Svanholm Park in Copenhagen sponsored by Maaza, the tropical fruit drink. As Skanderborg were unable to come there were two matches on the day. Herning played their semi-final against Landskrona from Sweden and the winner would face Norrebro in the final.

Herning were more than a handful for Landskrona who play in the Danish second division. Herning's Kent Jensen smashed 88 off 51 balls in thie opening 172 for 4 off the 20 overs. Lanskrona couldn't match this as they were unable to avoid the Herning fielders who caught everything that came their way and were all out for 94.

The final was more even between Herning and Norrebro. Norrebro put Herning into bat and this time Kent Jensen could only managed 28 before being caught on the boundary. Mogens Christiansen and Amit Buddia were the mainstay behind Herning's 160 off the 20 overs. Norrebro opened opened with the old warhorse Aftab Ahmed who in a glimse showed what he's known for with 2 blistering fours on the off side but then he skied his first pull attempt and that was that. Herning agin caught everything that came their way except in the dying moments but then it was pouring with rain. Rashid Ali and Faisal Sadique kept the innings together but both fell attempting the big hits necessary to keep the run rate going. Norrebro fell behind but managed to end on 150 thanks to some late hitting from Muzhar.

This first tournament has been interesting and gives food for thought about a repeat next year. It's obvious that it would have to be instead of the normal Cup tournament as too many teams fell through as the calendar is too full and yet again it only sholuld be for the the top flight as these games show the inadequacies far too much for the lesser teams.
