Queenslander to work with Leinster bowlers
Leinster underage provincial bowlers will commence a series of bowling clinics in July organised by the Leinster Cricket Union. The session’s ‘Pace Leinster’ continue the Union’s efforts to produce more quality seam bowlers and to encourage these bowlers to progress to senior level and above.
Merrion overseas professional Matthew Petrie, who is the leading wicket taker in the Leinster league this season, will head the sessions. Petrie was a member of the Queensland State squad from 1998-2005 and is now based in Perth playing with Western Australia. He attended the Australian Institute of Sport from 2001-2003 and toured Sri Lanka and India while with Queensland in 2004.
He has also played against South Africa, New Zealand, Pakistan and Bangladesh in tour matches. The sessions will give the invited bowlers an insight into the area of core stability and the different training/gym exercises involved.
Time will be spent learning the latest stretching and flexibility exercises currently being used by bowlers throughout the world. Much of the sessions will be spent analysing bowlers’ actions (video analysis) focusing on the key areas of power, lock-up, momentum and timing.
