Problems with work commitments and injuries have forced national coach PJ Bakker to make five changes in the Dutch squad which will travel to Aberdeen next month to take on Scotland in their second Intercontinental Cup match of the summer.

The absences include captain Jeroen Smits, which means that vice-captain Peter Borren will take over the leadership. Atse Buurman retains his place in the squad, and will keep wicket in Smits’s absence.

Otherwise, it is mainly the attack which is affected. Seamers Edgar Schiferli and Mark Jonkman will miss the trip, the latter through injury, and so will off-spinner Adeel Raja.

The fact that Raja is missing brings a recall for left-arm spinner Pieter Seelaar, while the batting is reinforced by the inclusion of Nicky Statham, who has been making runs consistently in this season’s Hoofdklasse. Bas Zuiderent and Ryan ten Doeschate are again unavailable.

All-rounders Geert Maarten Mol, who made his ODI debut during the recent quadrangular series in Ireland and is now set to play in a first-class match for the first time, and Jelte Schoonheim have been included in the twelve, as has seamer Somesh Kohli.

Mangesh Panchal, called in at the last moment for the trip to Canada when Mohammed Kashif was unavailable and took four crucial wickets on the final day, retains his place.

The full squad is: Peter Borren (VRA, captain), Mudassar Bukhari (VVV), Atse Buurman (Voorburg), Tom de Grooth (HCC), Alexei Kervezee (Worcestershire), Somesh Kohli (Quick Haag), Geert Maarten Mol (Quick Haag), Mangesh Panchal (VRA), Jelte Schoonheim (VOC), Pieter Seelaar (Hermes-DVS), Nicky Statham (Hermes-DVS), and Eric Szwarczynski (VRA).
