And it was a bloodbath in more ways than one at Svanholm Park as Svanholm's Max Overgaard got injured hooking a ball through the visor in his helmet and hitting him below the eye. Bleeding he was helped off the field not to return as he was stitched together at the hospital. Not only did Max retire hurt but Svanholm's Australian Shaun Gannon was hit on the elbow by Henrik Hansen and he was forced to retire. And as the rest of the Svanholm batsmen succumbed to the stronger Glostrup bowling being all out for 46 chasing Glostrups massive 241 for 8 Svanholm suffered one of the worst defeats to Glostrup. Luckily it wasn't the lowest total on record but the defeat was so heavy that Glostrup ended on top of the table due to the net run rate and therefore will have the home advantage as Glostrup and Svanholm play off for the Championship on Saturday.
Svanholm have only themselves to blame as they had put Glostrup in to bat knowing their batting line up is not their strongest point, remembering the play off from last year where Svanholm won an easy victory. But the gamble didn't come off, as the Svanholm bowlers bowled not only east and west but also north and south in the blustery conditions. Too many extras were given away and Glostrup bagged on the remaining balls on target. Martin Jensen and Peter Poulsen played well as Glostrup got the runs going. Only the Svanholm spinners made any impact with Glenn Larsen taking 3 wickets.
Glostrup's captain David Borchersen was the star of the Glostrup show as he took 5 well earned wickets as he bowled with hostilty and moving the ball around as the wind dropped. At the other end Henrik Hansen was even faster and mean as he nailed down Shaun Gannon. But it was none of these bowlers who gave Max his injury but first change bowler Aftab Ahmed. Glostrup didn't need a spinner as Svanholm virtually surrendered at the end. The question now is whether Svanholm can pull themselves up after this shock defeat and also if Max will be able to play again on Saturday as he has a very black eye.
Elsewhere the excitement was around the relegation battle. Husum who won surprisingly against Herning last week continued the good work and won convincingly over Esbjerg. Both teams ended equal on points but Esbjerg's run rate was superior as Husum have suffered heavy defeats in Copenhagen. KB whose chance for survival rested on winning over Norrebro failed as their battle fell apart chasing Norrebro's modest total. KB go down to the 1st division and will be replaced by Skanderborg. Husum still have a chance but will have to go on Saturday to Albertslund who ended 2nd in the 1st division and win the playoff. AB and bronze medal winners Herning met in the final match with nothing to play for. It ended with a last wicket victory for AB in a high scoring affair. So the two teams who were promoted last year ended in third and fourth place.
In the 1st division Fredericia and KB 2 will be relegated.
