After last weeks bloodbath at Svanholm Glostrup had yet again a golden chance to take the first Danish Championship to the club as Svanholm would mentally have to pull themselves out of a mud after suffering a humiliating defeat plus suffering two injuries to key players. But luckily both players were fit enough to take part in the play off at Glostrup's ground in Solvangsparken - a park.

With fine weather, plenty of spectators in the nice settings another close match was played out and the result was a repeat from last year. Svanholm were the victors and as Honorary President Jorgen Holmen said at the presentation after the match "Never has a team felt being robbed of a Championship as Glostrup has been and after last weeks massive victory Glostrup must also feel badly treated by the sport gods"

But how did Svanholm pull this off after last weeks massive defeat ? Well there are several reasons for this.

  • Last week Svanholm's medium bowlers bowled all over the place and served up runs on a plate to Glostrup's batsmen. This week was a different story as they all bowled with accuracy and irritation. Anders Leiberg took the crucial wicket of Peter Paulsen who was just getting in his stride like the week before but he was well caught by Mickey Lund.
  • At Svanholm Glostrup's opening bowlers David Borchersen and Henrik Hansen were able to extract extra bounce out of Svanholm's pitch while Glostrup's artifical pitch the bounce was low and both bowlers were not as dangerous and with no shine on the ball in their second spell they were ordinary.
  • Last week Svanholm won the toss and put Glostrup in thinking they had the weakest batting line up, but this backfired and Glostrup batted well and posted a large total. Svanholm won the toss in the playoff so this time they decided to bat first.
  • Last week Svanholm's opener Mickey Lund left without troubling the scorers much but this time in his last match for Svanholm he was the man behind Svanholm's victory as he stayed put as Svanholm lost 3 early wickets at the other end. Mickey advocates the theory to play to save wickets until the 40th over and then hit loose. Due to Mickey and Thomas Hansen (36) Svanholm were 107 for 4 after 40 but still managed to post 183 for 8 after 50. Mickey with his 82 not out blossomed in the final overs with an array of shots including 2 rare sixes. He was supported by the Svanholm's lower order. We won't name the poor Glostrup players who dropped Mickey when hes was 20 and 40. No doubt the game would have been different if they were held.
  • Glostrup's Martin Jensen who last week built the foundation of Glostrup innings only made 28 off 94 balls before getting out and leaving a vacuum in the innings. Besides Peter Paulsen (27) and David Borchersen (31) no one made the necessary impression in the run chase and Glostrup were out for 157.

With this victory Svanholm have made the history books as no other Danish sports club have won 24 Danish Championships. Svanholm have surpassed the athletic club Sparta's record of 23.

Not far from Glostrup another important battle was taking place as the relegation question from the Elitedivision was to be solved. Husum who ended 7th in the division were visiting Albertslund who ended 2nd in the 1st division, for a play off match for the right to play in The Elitedivision next year. Reports from this match indicated that the difference between the two teams was the approach to the match. Husum played as though their life depended on it while Alberslund played as though it was like any other match. This attitude is seen in the result. Alberslund were bowled out for 140 thanks to 4 wickets from the young Finn Kleissl and two wickets from veteran Flemming Wiese who also played the anchor innings for Husum in their reply. He stood there 35 not out at the end after 133 balls as Husum only lost 3 wickets passing Albertlund's total.
