The 27-year-old Ten Doeschate has developed a considerable reputation in both international and county cricket, and has established himself as an integral member of the Essex team in all forms of the game.

Ten Doeschate enjoyed his best year with the bat to date in the Championship in 2007, scoring 845 runs at 42.25, including three centuries.

In addition, he produced during the season his best List A bowling figures with five for 50 against Gloucestershire Gladiators in the Friends Provident Trophy, and best performance in the one-day League, taking three for 28 against Gloucestershire Gladiators in the NatWest Pro40 League.

Ten Doeschate said on Tuesday: ‘I’m happy to sign this contract because it shows Essex still want me and I’m part of their long-term plans.

‘Now my sights are set on improving once more in 2008. My first goal is to work on my bowling – which I know I’ve said before but I believe I can still make progress with it – so that I can aim to score 1000 Championship runs and take 20 Championship wickets next season.

‘In terms of one-day cricket I was happy with my bowling last season but need to produce more with the bat next year.’

‘Ryan’s progress with the Club has been exceptional,’ commented Essex chief executive David East. ‘Year-on-year he has demonstrated his rising stature in the game. Ryan is clearly a pivotal member of our squad – evidenced by the performances he has given – and our commitment together until 2010 is a reflection of this.’
