Hosts Kenya finished day two of their four-day Intercontinental Cup match with Bermuda poised at 242 for five after the Islanders were dismissed for 281 in 96 overs at the Gymkhana Cricket Club in Nairobi today.
Bermuda went to bed yesterday at 232 for six with David Hemp (95) and Dwayne Leverock (one) unbeaten at the crease. But the Kenyans struck early this morning after taking the new ball in the 80th over when Hemp was removed after only adding two runs to his overnight tally.
Hemp faced 227 balls and swatted 16 boundaries to lead the Islander's revival after they had stumbled to two for one.
Leverock (16), youngster Malachi Jones (12 not out) and Kevin Hurdle (15) continued the fight lower down the order before left arm spinner Henry Varaiya (five for 56) triggered a late slide that saw the Islanders lose their last three wickets in the space of 16 runs.
Bermuda will now look to milk success with the new ball when play resumes tomorrow with the Kenyans 39 runs shy of their first innings total and all rounders Thomas Odoyo (58 not out) and James Kamande (30 not out) in ominous form at the crease.
