Uganda put up a good showing at Lugogo Oval against a strong Kenya Afripals side that includes the bulk of Kenya's national team. Though both Steve Tikolo and Thomas Odoyo are in the side, the team is lead by wicket keeper Maurice Ouma while Jimmy Kamande acts as Vice Captain. Peter Ong’ondo, Tony Suji, David Obuya and Alex Obanda are the other senior members who are in the Afripals team which also includes a couple of youngster such as Odoyo's younger brother Ken Migai and bowler Moses Otieno.
In the first of two matches over the weekend, Uganda lost by just 8 runs after good performances by Davis Arinaitwe, Kenneth Kamyuka and Lawrence Sematimba. Afripals batted first with youngster Alex Obanda continuing his good form to make 71 in the visitor's total of 176 despite his recent injury that ruled him out of the intercontinental Cup clash with Bermuda. Tikolo also chipped in with 39, but it was Arinaitwe (4/33) and Kamyuka (4/55) who had the home crowd excited.
Uganda's reply was lead by Sematimba who made 44 and they only just fell short on 168 with Odoyo (4/20) being the main destroyer for Afripals.
The teams were due to meet for a second game on Sunday.
