Kenya Afripals registered their second and far more convincing win over an enthusiastic and courageous Uganda at the Lugogo oval on Sunday. Batting first, opener David Obuya cracked exactly 100 as he set the platform for Kenya to post a respectable total of 247 for the loss of 7 wickets. Alex Obanda again showed he is a class act, certainly at Associate level, with yet another half century. This time he made 65 and has firmly cemented his place in the once troublesome number 3 spot.
Uganda for their part bowled and fielded with plenty of heart, much to the delight of the crowd that numbered in its hundreds. Though they did not have the success of Saturday, Kenneth Kamyuka (2/30), Emmanuel Isaneez (2/49) and Daniel Ruyange (1/18) all had good performances and will have increased their confidence before the WCL Division II in Namibia.
Unlike in the first game where Uganda came very close to an upset, Afripals controlled the second innings restricting the scoring rate and taking regular wickets. Uganda's reply finally ended on 174 for the loss of 9 wickets, a loss of 73 runs. Despite the results both going to Afripals, Uganda will have gained much from this tour and should be confident that they will put up a good showing in Windhoek. Furthermore the size of the crowds underlines the growing rivalry that these two countries are developing. Currently Uganda are very much the smaller brother, but if they continue to get exposure against the better teams and continue to bring through their young prospects, hard fought matches between the two could become a regular feature on the calendar.
