Although Mickey Lund was run out for 14 with the score on 30, Denmark continued at nearly 6 runs per over with both Freddie Klokker and Carsten Pedersen scoring freely. The tempo of the innings changed when Carsten Pedersen was unfortunately run out for 37. Freddie Klokker soon followed, stumped off the bowling of Tariq Hussein with the score on 106 after 20.2 overs. Wickets then fell regularly until Denmark were all out for 168 after 43.3 overs. A poor score such as this was never going to seriously test the Omani batsmen – and so it proved.
Although Thomas Hansen took a wicket in his second over, he was far too expensive and was taken off after just three overs having conceded 32 runs. Henrik Hansen had fared no better; he was taken off after conceding 17 runs in 2 overs. Both Denmark's spinners bowled well but they really needed the Denmark batsmen to have set a far bigger total to be really effective. Bobby Chawla took 2 for 46 in his 10 overs; Bashir Shah took 1 for 39 in his 9 overs.
Oman took just 29.5 overs to score the runs. This victory has left them unbeaten in the competition so far – with only the UAE to play. At present the top three teams look to be Oman, UAE and hosts Namibia but there may well be the need to resort to net run rate calculations to separate them – depending on the remaining results. Two of these three will contest the 1st/2nd place play-off on Saturday with the other facing Denmark – hopefully - in the 3rd/4th place play-off. Denmark should beat Argentina comfortably on Friday to secure 4th place but anything is possible such is the inconsistency that the team are showing at present.
