Railway Union have confirmed the signing of Thinus Fourie from Merrion for the 2008 season. The Irish international, currently on tour with the Ireland Senior team in Abu Dhabi and Bangladesh, joins team mates Trent Johnston and Kevin O'Brien at the Park Avenue side.Fourie has played 8 times for Ireland, taking 3-31 on his debut in the 2007 Intercontinental Cup win over Canada. The 28 year old all rounder is a fine acquisition for Railway, who lost their Senior 'A' status last year.
David Carroll, President of Railway Union commented:
"We are delighted to obtain the services of player of Thinus's calibre and experience. He has a tremendous record in Leinster cricket and will be a big asset to our Club, both on and off the field when not involved with Team Ireland."
"Railway Union need to bounce back this year after the disappointments of 2007 and the addition of Thinus, Carlo Rendell, who joins us from Old Belvedere and Trent Copeland from St. George CC in Sydney as our overseas player should help us fulfil our ambitions both in Leinster and in the ISC."
"We shall miss Roger Whelan who has retired since last year but we are confident that our new signings will offset this loss and we thank Roger for his contribution to Railway Union over many seasons"
