UlsterWeb, the owner of CricketEurope, has recently come to an agreement with Cricket Ireland for the provision of a 'super-site' consisting of official sites for the Irish, Leinster, Munster, Northern and North West Cricket Unions. Some of these sites have already begun to appear and the remainder will come online within the next few days.

As a result I have taken the decision to terminate publication of CricketEurope's Ulster section once the Northern and North West Unions' sites have begun publication. These new sites are expected to provide full news reporting, results, tables, scorecards for all of their competitions, together with a photographic feature service.

Some existing CricketEurope Ulster content, however, will continue to be published by us. In particular, the Paul Stafford Column, our Readers Forum and the statistical databases will be absorbed into our CricketEurope Ireland section.

The same people that have brought CricketEurope Ulster to you will now be involved with the various provincial unions in providing content for their sites, so you can expect the level of service to be maintained - and, hopefully, to get even better - as the unions' own resources will be deployed to help with the running of the sites.

Since first becoming involved in web site publishing in 1997 it has been my aim to see the introduction of a single site encompassing not just international coverage but also including all of the provincial unions. For many reasons that aim remained as nothing more than a pipedream until very recently. The arrival last year of the new Cricket Ireland CEO Warren Deutrom, the increased profile of Irish cricket since the 2007 World Cup and the various reforms that have taken place in Irish cricket over the past year or so, have certainly changed the attitudes of the various unions towards the necessity and importance for them of having well-maintained sites.

I am certainly delighted that I have been able to come to this new arrangement between UlsterWeb and the governing bodies and I am convinced that its effect should be to provide an even more comprehensive coverage of Irish cricket for readers at home and abroad.
