GLENN Rogers is all set to help the Saltires recover from last week's FP Trophy nightmare. Rogers, omitted from the side that slumped to a record-low 73 all out in an eight-wicket defeat to Lancashire, is a certain starter as the Scots visit two of their happiest hunting grounds.
They tackle Derbyshire tomorrow and embark on a revenge mission against Lancashire at Old Trafford on Monday. For Rogers the trip to Manchester is a return to the scene of two stunning catches he took to help seal a thrilling ten-run win against the Red Rose county last year.
"I still have dreams about these two catches which are among the best I've taken in my career," the Stenhousemuir spinner said.
"I was gutted to miss out on last weekend's game and am desperate to get back in the side. Going back to Old Trafford will bring back happy memories but we've got to concentrate on Derbyshire first and we've also got a good record down there. The lads are determined to show last week was a one-off and it's great that we have two games so soon after what happened on Sunday."
Fraser Watts skippers the side for the first time in the absence of regular captain Ryan Watson while Majid Haq is also unavailable. Greenock all-rounder Craig Wright returns to the side after missing the Lancashire game while Aussie pro Ed Cowan is looking for his first run after being bowled for a duck by England seamer James Anderson at Citylets Grange.
Carlton batsman Watts scored a century against Ayr last Saturday, only to be run out cheaply against Lancashire.
Much interest will focus on the performance of Navdeep Poonia, the Warwickshire batsman who has been loaned to the Saltires for these next two matches. Despite being a full-time professional, though, Poonia has had little more action than his amateur colleagues after this week's second XI clash between Warwickshire and Lancashire in which he was due to play was abandoned without a ball bowled. The majority of the Saltires squad will train at Raeburn Place this morning before travelling south this afternoon.
Cowan, the Uddingston professional, will play for his club before heading to Derby this evening as will Gordon Goudie (West of Scotland) and Richie Berrington (Greenock), who are unlikely to make the starting XI against Derbyshire.
Saltires squad: F Watts (capt), E Cowan, N Poonia, G Hamilton, C Smith, N McCallum, C Wright, J Blain, G Rogers, G Drummond, D Nel, G Goudie, R Berrington.
