Merrion v Cricket Ireland Women - 5^th  May 2008

Isobel Joyce won the toss and elected to bat.  Clare O’Leary (drafted in at the last minute) opened the batting with Sharon Smyth and they put on 33 before Sharon was out caught.  Isobel joined Clare and they put on another 49 before Clare was run out for a well made 26.  The best partnership of the innings was between Nicki Coffey and Cathy Murphy who put on 59 for the 5^th wicket.  The girls ended up with 183 for 6 off their 45 overs.

In reply Will Heuston and G. Dungan put on 39 before Will was caught behind by Jo Day of Melissa’s bowling.  Merrion batted steadily and built up a few partnerships with G. Dungan leading the way scoring 45 before he was caught by Isobel off Amy Kenealy’s bowling.  With the score on 146 for 6 off 39 overs it was game on Merrion needed 38 runs from 6 overs and the girls needed 4 wickets for victory.  K. Roa was stumped by Jo Day trying to hit out, P. Shetty reached 38 off 32 balls before being caught by Nicki, Ger Rodgers was trapped L.B.W. by Nicki on 21 off 22 leaving the score at 181 for 8 in the 43^rd over.  J. Khan hit the winning run off the last ball of the 43^rd over giving Merrion victory by 2 wickets.
