Craig Wright has put himself on stand-by for the Scottish Saltires' match against Durham this Sunday despite a prior commitment to coaching Scotland under-19s against his own club, Greenock.
Wright missed the opening match of the FP Trophy season to guide the under-19s in their Premier Division bow against Poloc, and his decision last Sunday to rejoin the Saltires paid off when the juniors' game against Ferguslie was abandoned and Wright helped the national team defeat Lancashire.
With Gordon Drummond doubtful for this weekend's visit of the champions Durham to Citylets Grange, the former Scotland captain has told head coach Pete Steindl he will choose country over his duties as youth performance manager again if needed.
"I sat down with Pete and thrashed out a schedule at the start of the season for when I would play and when I would coach, and I was going to coach this weekend but Drummy has tweaked a hamstring, so I told Pete I would remain on stand-by to play," Wright said.
"It's difficult because I hate to ever give anything less than 100 per cent, but I knew I couldn't give 100 per cent to either this summer. It's a case of trying to find the right compromise."
Wright denied the latest Old Trafford coup had influenced the situation by reigniting his passion for national duties, saying: "No, that had never gone away."
