SCOTLAND U19s were last night handed a harsh lesson by Durham Academy at Bothwell Castle Policies.
The youngsters, who face a season of tough action after being admitted to the top flight of the SNCL, were no match for the emerging county stars who ran out winners by 123 runs.
Man-of-the-match Richard Hopwood hit 97 while Rami Singh made 95 as the Academy rattled up 265-7.
Only Scott Redhead, playing against his Durham pals, and Willie Rowan made any impression with the ball with two wickets apiece.
But Hopwood claimed six scalps to help skittle the Scots for 142, only Matthew Parker and Aman Bailwal offering the any resistance with 39 and 33.
Craig Wright's side have the chance for revenge today when the teams meet again, also at Bothwell Castle.
SCORE: Durham Academy 265-7 (R Hopwood 97, R Singh 95) beat Scotland U19 142 (M Parker 39, A Bailwal 33; R Hopwood 6-21) by 123 runs.
