IN-DEMAND John Blain could be poised for a sensational return to Yorkshire, the county that released him two years ago.
The Saltires bowler, who will miss today's final FP Trophy clash against Derbyshire, has attracted the interest of county scouts after a string of sparkling displays in the opening month of the season.
Blain has already been approached by Gloucestershire and was informally sounded out about a return to the Tykes during Monday's match at Headingley.
The Scotland pace bowler, 29, has never concealed his desire to resurrect his professional career. However, Blain recently started a job as a representative for Paisley-based Gilmour Sports and refuses to be rushed into a decision.
He said: "It's flattering to be approached and I have to say returning to the county ranks is something that appeals to me.
"Gloucestershire even wanted me to play in their FP Trophy quarter-final next Wednesday, but it's not as if I could or would walk away from my new position at such short notice.
"I may not be fit by then in any case but I'd want time to make sure things are right. Gloucestershire understand my position and the ball is in their court."
However, Yorkshire's interest could prove even more attractive to Blain.
The county are in the midst of a seam-bowling injury crisis and it is understood they would have made an immediate move for Blain had he not suffered a shoulder strain during Monday's match.
Blain, who will undergo a precautionary scan, added: "Yorkshire are a massive county who still mean a lot to me and there are influential people at the club who have put the feelers out. We'll wait and see how things develop."
Meanwhile, the Saltires received a boost last night when Warwickshire agreed to release teenager Calum MacLeod for today's match at Citylets Titwood.
Richie Berrington, who missed the Yorkshire match due to exam commitments, returns for the injured Blain.
Coach Pete Steindl said: "It's obviously a blow to lose John, who has been in such great form, but we're delighted Calum is available.
"He has shown in his first two games for the Saltires that he has lots to offer, as has Richie."
