UDDINGSTON will celebrate their 125th anniversary and the opening of a new state-of-the-art clubhouse later this month by staging a glamour Twenty20 competition.
Club chiefs have secured the full Saltires side to compete in the event against a Pakistani All Stars outfit with the winners to face an Uddingston Select. Uddingston skipper Ricky Bawa declared: "This is a special year for the club and the Twenty20 competition will be the centrepiece of our celebrations.
"The clubhouse is up and running and is a superb addition to our facilities.
"We have been chosen to host this year's Scottish Cup final and hopefully that will be the first of many big games to be staged at Uddingston."
Bawa hopes the Pakistani side will include a mixture of professionals from north and south of the Border.
Former Clydesdale and Saltires pro Yasir Arafat could even play depending on commitments with Kent.
Meanwhile, the Uddingston team will be bolstered by guest players including the former New Zealand Test batsman Matt Horne, currently playing for Ayr.
The tournament will take place on Sunday, 15 June .
Meanwhile, Greenock will today begin their bid to claim a sixth Scottish Cup triumph in eight years. Their David and Goliath tie with second division Weirs is the club's first at home since they beat Grange in the 2006 final. Skipper Craig Wright added: "We were away in every round last year so it will be great for our supporters to see a cup match at Glenpark again."
Last year's beaten finalists, and the form side in the opening month of the season, Carlton, entertain premier division rivals Clydesdale in the tie of the round.
Freuchie, celebrating their 100th year, face a daunting challenge at Grange while Ferguslie undertake a dangerous trip to Drumpellier and West of Scotland visit Shawholm for a Glasgow derby against Poloc.
Heriot's, who have been drawn at home to second division Dumfries, believe they could put their first cup run together since winning the competition in 2000. Player-coach Steve Knox declared: "Dumfries are one of the stronger second division sides so we won't be treating them lightly. But at least we have a home draw and maybe that's a good omen. In the last two years we've been drawn away to Ferguslie and Grange and gone out. Hopefully we can go on a run this year."
Knox will skipper the Scotland Lions when they face Lancashire in the 2nd XI County Championship at Blackpool this week. The Scots have made several changes to the team defeated inside two days in their opening fixture against Notts last month.
Arbroath's in-form Scotland U19 batsman Matthew Parker has been rewarded for a string of outstanding displays while Ferguslie's Omer Hussain makes his first representative appearance of the season.
Glasgow High Kelvinside will decide this week if they are to beg Western Union cricket chiefs to allow them to recruit a substitute professional in the wake of the Shahid Hameed bombshell. The veteran Pakistani sustained career-threatening injuries when he jumped out the window of his Glasgow flat during a visit by police and immigration officials.
Although not charged with any offence, Hameed's British visa has been revoked and he has been ordered to return to his native country when he has recovered from his multiple fractures.
It is believed that officers had been seeking one of his flatmates and that they discovered a large sum of money and boxes of mobile phones in the building. GHK chiefs have refused to make any official comment, however a club insider said: "There are lots of things to be discussed about this matter – one of which will be the prospects of us engaging a new professional."
