The teams that top the premier and first division tables of Scottish cricket’s national league could meet each other in the second round of the Lloyds TSB Scotland Scottish Cup.
In order to help clubs in planning the use of their grounds, the draw was made today by Cricket Scotland’s chief executive Roddy Smith and community development manager Steve Paige.
With all but four of yesterday’s first round matches rained off, there are plenty of ifs and buts about the fresh draw. But if Ayr defeat Forfarshire and Aberdeenshire beat Edinburgh in the replays next Sunday, then they would meet in the second round at new Cambusdoon on June 22.
Other mouth-watering possibilities exist, but the four sides already through to the second round are Uddingston, who will be away to either West Lothian or Falkland, while Stenhousemuir will play either Drumpellier or Ferguslie at the Tryst, MGM Prestwick will host the game against either NVT Poloc or McCrea FS West, and Watsonians will play either Heriots or APD Dumfries away from home.
The full draw is: West Lothian or Falkland v Uddingston; RH Corstorphine or Dunfermline v Greenock or Weirs; Heriots or APD Dumfires v Watsonians; Arbroath United or Stirling County v Carlton or Greaves Clydesdale; MGM Prestwick v NVT Poloc or McCrea FS West; Ayr or Forfasrhire v Edinburgh or Aberdeenshire; Grange or Freuchie v Penicuik or SMRH; Stenhousemuir v Drumpellier or Ferguslie.
The quarter-finals will be played on Sunday July 6, with the semi-finals on Sunday August 10. The two finalists will meet to contest the trophy itself at Bothwell Policies on Sunday August 24.
