The first of the Ulster Bank League awards covering from the start of the season up to the weekend of May 24 - and in a couple of cases including May 31 - have been presented at the Bank’s headquarters in Belfast.
The awards are for centuries, at least six wickets or a hat trick in the four sections of the NCU’s Ulster Bank League and leading the batting stakes was Lisburn’s overseas professional Gerry Strydom with no fewer than three centuries. Not far behind was North Down’s Joe Montgomery with two - including his last on May 31 against Derriaghy.
Ryan Hanna of Cooke Collegians performed the unusual feat of winning awards for batting and bowling - 7 for 21 against Dungannon and 125 against Dunmurry, a game in which his team mate Gian Botha also hit a century.
Rajev Kumar of Belfast International Sports Club had the rare distinction of picking up two bowling awards in successive weeks - 6 for 32 against Donacloney and on May 31, 6 for 26 against Millpark.
A little bit of history was made by Ken Maxwell of Clogher (pictured with Stephen Cruise of the Ulster Bank and NCU Chairman Wylie McKinty) whose 101 against Victoria was the club’s first Ulster Bank award since it joined the Section 4 ranks last year.
Two hat tricks were performed during the period. Both were in Section 2 by Lurgan’s Niranjan Godbole against Holywood and Saintfield’s Mark McBriar against Lurgan and their specially inscribed awards will be presented at a later date.
