KYLE Coetzer is understood to have made himself available for Scotland's bid to qualify for next year's World Twenty20.

Sources close to the Durham batsman confirmed last night he was ready to end his two-year international exile and bolster Ryan Watson's batting order for the qualifying tournament in Belfast from 2-5 August, which promises three places at next summer's World event in England.

The Aberdonian, 24, has only played for his country ten times and not at all since making a duck at Citylets Grange against Lancashire in June 2006. Injury denied him the chance to play his way into the 2007 World Cup squad and then loyalty to Durham drove a wedge between the player, his county coach Geoff Cook and Scotland selectors.

During the impasse he missed out on the chance to face Pakistan, India and New Zealand in one-day internationals and to take part in last September's inaugural World Twenty20 in South Africa. However, Coetzer is now poised to aid the Scots' bid to reach the same event next year in London and Nottingham.

Meanwhile, Arbroath teenager Matthew Parker has received his first full call-up to the Scotland squad for the first wave of European Championship matches in County Dublin, starting with tomorrow's match against Denmark.

As expected, senior players Gavin Hamilton, Fraser Watts and Dewald Nel were named yesterday in the squad for the ODIs at the end of Scotland's campaign, having been given a break for the contests with the Danes, Italy (Saturday) and Norway (Monday).

Giles Holmes, Parker, Gregor Maiden and Omer Hussain will make way for them on Monday evening – unless there are further injury setbacks after the loss of Gordon Goudie and Calum MacLeod.

European Championship squad: R Watson (capt), R Berrington, D Nel (ODIs only), S Weeraratna, C Wright (ODIs only), J Blain, G Drummond, G Hamilton (ODIs only), M Haq, G Holmes, O Hussain, G Maiden, N McCallum, M Parker, G Rogers, Q Sheikh, C Smith, F Watts (ODIs only).
