Dickson shines for Scotland U17s on Day 1.

Round 3 of the ECB Northern Section of the County Championships saw the U17 girls team take on their opponents from Yorkshire at Marton Cricket Club in Middlesbrough.

After losing the toss and put into the field things started very well for the U17 girls reducing Yorkshire to 23/2 in the 9th over. Priyanaz Chatterji accounted for Boulton when she was bowled for 2 and Stacey Christie bowled Wilson for 0. A 3rd wicket partnership of 103 took Yorkshire to 126 of 29 overs before the girls got a much needed breakthrough thanks to a fantastic direct hit by Mina Zahoor. With the dangerous Childe still at the crease it looked as though Yorkshire were going to post a formidable total. Star of show Mina Zahoor removed Childe caught and bowled for a well-made 70. The total now stood at 180/4 with 38 overs bowled. Chatterji brought herself back into the attack and quickly removed Buck and Levick before Wynn was run out superbly by a combination of Christie and Zahoor. Yorkshire finished on 223 for 7 after their allotted 45 overs. Priyanaz Chatterji was best bowler for the U17 girls finishing with the figures of 5 overs 3-8.

The Scotland batting innings got off to a scintillating start with the opening combination of Lynne Dickson and Mina Zahoor taking the score past the 50 runs in 13 overs. The pair continued to bat fantastically and their partnership reached 102 by the end of the 29th. Dickson was first to fall with the score on 109 after she had made her maiden half-century finishing on 56. With Dickson gone the middle order suffered a collapse and the girls finding themselves in trouble with the score on 117-5 with Elizabeth Priddle, Sam Haggo and Rebecca Waldie all going in quick succession. The impressive Levick then bowled Zahoor with the score on 117, Mina was out for a well-crafted 48. Lorna Jack scored 17 not out leaving the Scotland total on 145 of their allotted 45 overs.

Match 2 vs Yorkshire

Priyanaz won the toss and elected to bat first. The same opening combination of Dickson and Zahoor continued from where they left of the day before putting together a partnership worth 32 before Dickson was run out for 12. Lois Wilkinson and Stacey Christie both promoted up the order came and went in the same over with the score on 39/3 after 17 overs. Chatterji joined Zahoor at the crease and the put on 38 for the 4th wicket before Chatterji was bowled by Boulton trying to move the score along for steady 14. Morven Ross provided valuable support to Zahoor and she passed her 50 before eventually being stumped ot the bowling of Boulton for 55. Sam Haggo joined Morven at the crease and they put on 10 runs before Morven was bowled. The Scotland innings finished on 119/8 of their allotted 40 overs.

After a quick turn around the girls knew that quick wickets would keep them in with a chance of winning the game. But both Yorkshire openers Boulton and Childe had different ideas and they put on 42 for the 1st wicket before Childe was expertly run out by Lorna Jack. The Yorkshire girls continued to build partnership but credit must go to the Scotland bowlers who stuck at there task and Wilkinson managed to pick up 2 well deserved wickets. Mina Zahoor also picked up a wicket leaving the Yorkshire girls to get past the required total with 4 wickets down in the 30th over.

Thanks to Marton Cricket Club and the Yorkshire Team and management staff for their hospitality throughout the 2 days.
