Scotland coach Pete Steindl is backing his side to atone for their European Championship flop by gaining revenge on Ireland. The Scots suffered a dreadful batting collapse in Dublin on Thursday to hand the title to their oldest rivals.
But the stakes will be even higher when the sides meet again in a crucial Twenty20 World Cup qualifying clash in Belfast today. And Steindl is convinced his troops can come out on top when it really matters.
He said: "Thursday was a massive disappointment for everyone because we'd played some good cricket throughout the tournament and came nowhere close to the standards we have set. But lessons have been learned and the guys are itching to get another go at Ireland.
"We're going into a different tournament and a different format of the game and there is a massive incentive at the end of it. We made it to the first T20 World Cup last year and we want another crack at a major tournament."
Kyle Coetzer will make his first international appearance in more than two years after being released by Durham for today's match.
The former Stoneywood-Dyce star replaces Clydesdale's Qasim Sheikh and Steindl added: "We're very lucky to have a player of Kyle's quality coming into the side and he will have an important role to play."
However, Coetzer is being recalled by his county for their clash with Bangladesh A tomorrow (Sun). His place will then go to Warwickshire's Navdeep Poonia who will face Bermuda.
The Scots must finish in the top three in the six-team tournament to reach next summer's finals in England.
