CRICKET DEVELOPMENT

The NCU Board of Directors has endorsed proposals from the Development Directorate for changes to the Union’s competitions structure from the 2010 season.

These include:
All leagues (apart from the lowest sections in divisions) to be organised on an eight team basis;
A sixteen team Premier League based on two divisions of eight;
The sixteen Premier League clubs to compete for the Challenge Cup;
Overseas players to be permitted to play in Challenge Cup;
The same standard of overseas players throughout the Premier League;
The Junior Cup to be contested by remaining 1st XIs and teams in Division 2 Section 1.

The first stage in implementation of the proposals is the move to eight team leagues. A proposal to bring this about is tabled for the 2008 AGM. If that proposal is carried the Board of Directors will table proposals at the 2009 AGM to bring about the other changes for the 2010 season.
