Malahide win Fingal U13 Indoor Tournament.

On Thursday (4th of December), Malahide defeated Rush NS by 19 runs in the Fingal U13 Indoor Cricket Final at Balrothery. Earlier 2 teams from Balrothery had played out a close match in the Plate Final.

The final was the culmination of an excellent competition that has been taking place over the last 5 weeks at the indoor centre. The tournament has involved 8 teams from the Fingal Area with sides from Malahide, Rush, Balrothery, Balbriggan and Skerries all playing each other in a league format with the Top 4 teams qualifying for the semi-finals. Malahide and Rush NS emerged victorious from monday's semi-finals and it is fair to say that these two sides have been the most consistent throughout the competition with Malahide remaining unbeaten in all 9 of their matches over the 5 weeks.

The match was a close fought affair played under indoor cricket rules (8 a side) with batsmen getting the best value for shots played in the "V". Malahide batted first and scored 184 with good contributions coming from all the team. Rush NS made a good reply but excellent bowling and fielding from Malahide meant that they were always just behind the required run rate eventually falling 19 runs short.

The final was played in a great spirit by both teams and a big thank you should go to Reinhardt Strydom, Fingal's Cricket Development Officer for organising the competition. It was a great experience for all the players and kept everyone involved during these dark winter months.

The Victorious Malahide Squad were :
James Newman (Capt), Conor Gill, Mark O'Hara, Sean O'Donoghue, David Byrne, Cameron Shoebridge, James Garrigan, Riley Shoebridge, Fionn Andrews and Eric Ryan.
