Leinster cricketers’ coaching trip to Edgbaston

Leinster’s well established link with Warwickshire CCC saw four young players visit Edgbaston, Birmingham for a three-day intensive coaching programme run over the Easter school holidays.

Tyrone Kane (Age 14 – Merrion CC), Cormac McLoughlin (Age 15 - North County CC) and Darren Nicol (Age 14 - CYM) joined Warwickshire Academy member Shane Getkate (Age 17 – Malahide CC) in what proved to be a most memorable visit.

The boys joined in with a two-day bowling clinic run by the county board that attracted many of the better young fast bowlers from the county. Added to this the boys were given further bowling advice from former England all-rounder Dougie Brown. Currently the 2nd XI coach at Warwickshire, Brown focused in on areas such as the run up, being balanced and having control at the crease, shoulder rotation, and establishing the ‘feel’ to the perfect delivery.

The final day saw the boys take part in a net session with the Warwickshire Academy squad. All the boys got to bowl at former England wicketkeeper Tim Ambrose (who scored a Test match hundred last summer) along with a lot of the other up-and-coming talent currently progressing through the ranks at Warwickshire.

The trip was put together by Warwickshire’s Richard Cox and Leinster’s Brian O’Rourke who have established a close working relationship over recent years. It is planned to arrange several further coaching trips during the summer.
