Ireland Women defeat Railway Union
Railway Union v Cricket Ireland Women - 5th July 2009
Skipper Heather Whelan won the toss for only the second time this season and invited Railway to bat first. Due to rain the match was reduced to 30 overs per side. The girls got off to a cracking start taking 7 wickets for 37 runs by the 14th over, Marianne Herbert bowled Rangan for 4, Eimear bowled Mustafa for 15, had skipper Graham Chisholm trapped LBW for 1 and also bowled C. Flanagan for 3, Melissa bowled H. Kapour for 2, had D. Gargan caught behind by Valmai Gee for 0 and bowled Southall for 3. This left Nevil Clarke and Paul Byrne at the crease, the 2 put on 41 before Nevil was caught by Melissa off Cecelia Joyceís bowling for 14. Paul was joined by K. Kapour and the 2 put on a further 52 before Kapour was out caught by Laura Boylan off Heatherís bowling for a swift 23 off 15 balls. Paul reached his 50 off 50 balls and went on to make 58 not out at the end of the innings leaving the girls needing 143 for victory.

In reply Eimear and Cecelia opened for the girls and they reached 58 before Eimear was clean bowled by H. Kapour for 16. Clare OíLeary joined Cecelia and the 2 put on only 8 before Clare was out LBW. Sinead Lyons joined Cecelia and the 2 put on a further 56 in just 10 overs before Sinead was run out for 16. Melissa and Cecelia saw the side home with 3.5 overs to spare with Cecelia scoring 82 not out off 85 balls.
