A brave unbeaten 106 in 158 balls by Kenya's captain Maurice Ouma left his side with the merest sliver of a chance of saving the game at the end of the third day of their Intercontinental Cup fixture against Scotland at Nairobi Gymkhana.

But the Scots remained fully in the driving seat in a game they have had control over since dismissing their hosts for a paltry 91 all out on the first day.

Kenya batted throughout the day, having lost opener Seren Waters the night before. They finished on 288 for 7 in their second innings, a lead of 73 going into the final day.

It was a dogged fight by Kenya, with entertaining batting limited to Ouma's innings and a cameo 34 from Steve Tikolo. Nighwatchman Hiren Varaiya turned daywatchman as he ground out 44 valuable runs from 237 deliveries.

But the wickets of Jimmy Kamande and Nehemiah Odhiambo, both clean bowled by Kyle Coetzer as the final session of the day was coming to a close, left Kenya in a dire position. Fast medium bowler Dewald Nel threatened all day and finished with three wickets for 81 off 28 overs.

Now Kenya will hope that Elijah Otieno, on 10, will be able to stay in with Ouma during the greater part of tomorrow morning - or Scotland may well have victory in the bag by mid-afternoon.
