Ireland were well beaten in their opening match at the Women's World Twenty20 when they lost by 93 runs to New Zealand in Mohali.

Captain Isobel Joyce top scored with 28 as Ireland could total only 84-5 in response to the Kiwis' impressive 177-3 with Kim Garth, Amy Kenealy who conceded only 20 runs in three overs and Joyce the wicket-takers.

But Northern Ireland-born Clare Shillington and 16-year-old Gaby Lewis were the only other players to make it into double figures as all but one of the New Zealand bowlers conceded less than five runs an over.

Ireland's second match is against Sri Lanka, also beaten by New Zealand in their first match, back in Mohali on Sunday.
