Two splendid bursts of fast bowling by Nehemiah Odhiambo and a propensity for the Scots to run themselves out did for the Scottish challenge in their T-20 Tri-Series final match with Kenya today.
Having bowled out Scotland for 123 in 19.2 overs (N Odhiambo 4-0-20-5 and three run outs), David Obuya and Steve Tikolo set about the visitors' bowling with a vengeance on a good batting track at Nairobi Gymkhana.
The two went neck-and-neck towards their fifties, Obuya just edging his former captain; Obuya finished on 65 not out, Tikolo on 56.
Scotland's innings had got off to a brisk start and had reached 23 when Kyle Coetzer was caught at deep mid-wicket off Nehemiah Odhiambo; then Ryan Watson was clean-bowled and Neil McCallum survived the hat-trick ball.
Not to be outdone by his namesake, in the fourth over all three of Fraser Watts' pins were knocked over by Nelson Odhiambo. The sixth over ended on 39 for 5 after the first run out of the game was followed by Richie Berrington being caught by Kenya wicketkeeper-captain Morris Ouma off Nelson Odhiambo.
Captain Gavin Hamilton and Jan Stander stabilised things, putting on 65. Stander struck three sixes in his 45 before he was bowled by Nehemiah Odhiambo, only for Gordon Drummond to go the same way next ball.
Hamilton was out for a tenacious 28 on 110, another Nehemiah Odhiambo victim, and two run outs finished off a disappointing Scottish innings.
None of the Scottish bowlers was able to make inroads on a rampant David Obuya and Steve Tikolo. Majid Haq managed to apply a temporary brake, but the Kenyan openers had things done and dusted much as they pleased by half way through the 15th over.
The sides next meet in the warm-ups for the TwentyTwenty World Cup quaifiers in UAE next week.
Scotland 123 (19.2 overs); Kenya 126 for 0 (14.3 overs).
Kenya won by 10 wickets and win the Tri-Nations series.
