The MCU today announced the draw for the Munster cup competitions.

Defending champions, Cork Harlequins, begin their defence with a home draw against Co. Kerry. This will be a welcome draw for the Farmers Cross men as they managed to avoid the unknown quantity of new comers Limerick Raiders.

In a repeat of last year’s opening match, 2008 winners Cork County make the long trip to Galway. The Tribesmen shocked a somewhat under strength County side on that occasion, going all the way to final where they came up short against 'Quins on a weather effected pitch.

In the junior competition Cork County are faced with the prospect of a preliminary clash with a much fancied Co. Clare team as they set out to retain the cup. Waterford District take their junior cup bow and await the winner of the preliminary tie between Lismore and Limerick.

UCC, last year’s Minor Cup winners, take on the young Presentation side in the preliminary round and will consider themselves lucky to have avoided the strong Cork County and Cork Harlequins side of the draw.

The draw in full is:

Cork Harlequins* v Co. Cork

WIT v Limerick

Midleton v Co. Clare

Galway v Cork County*

*Seeded teams separated in the draw.
