Glendermott Cricket Club announced at the weekend that former Ireland batsman Stephen Smyth has agreed to join them ahead of the forthcoming season thereby ending speculation about the left hander's plans following his year away from the game.
Confirming developments yesterday, skipper Gordon Montgomery said that the Rectory club was breaking its silence in order to put an end to the uncertainty surrounding the player's immediate future.
"We are aware that Stephen has been associated with several North West clubs recently but are delighted to confirm that he has agreed to play for Glendermott. Stephen is a player of real quality and having missed all of last season through injury he is hungry to get back into the game. Like most top class batsmen he is sure to enjoy playing on one of the best pitches in the country and we are confident that he will add a cutting edge to our side".
With Gary Neely already signed and a new professional to come in, things are shaping up nicely however Glendermott look to be far from finished yet.
Eglinton and Ireland under-19 batsman Craig Averill is also believed to be on his way to Bonds Street and although not completely done and dusted, the club has suggested that they were "95% certain" that Averill would be coming as well.
